Shunt motors fall under the classification of DC self-excited motors. The field winding is connected in parallel with the armature winding. The voltage at both ends of the shunt winding is the voltage at both ends of the rotor winding, and its value is relatively high, but the excitation winding is wound with thin wire, and its turns are many, so it has a large resistance, so that the excitation current passing through it is small.
